The 2018 DETAILS is a bold Cabernet Sauvignon varietal blend comprised of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petite Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot from Sonoma County. This vintage features fruit from the AVA’s of Sonoma Valley, Knights Valley, Alexander Valley, Dry Creek, and Chalk Hill.

Each specific appellation was chosen for its unique composition and contribution to the overall blend. The majority of this vintage hails from the Sonoma Valley AVA, from a premier eastern hillside site, along the Mayacamas Mountains behind Oakville. We wanted to balance the masculine structure with softer feminine qualities to arrive at a truly approachable wine when young, while improving with ageif you have the patience to wait. The tension between immediate versus delayed gratification. Your call...

LABEL

If you look closely, you will notice the devil is in the details. The skull label is inspired by the ever-mysterious goat eyes, which are capable of seeing and sensing two things at once. The art conveys the double meaning behind the devil inside. The hieroglyphs tell their own detailed story within the goat’s skull.  What do you see?

TERROIR

The 2018 DETAILS Cabernet Sauvignon is crafted from the finest appellations in Sonoma County. The majority of the Cabernet Sauvignon for the blend comes from Sonoma Valley. Both Knights Valley and Alexander Valley are cooler climates for Cabernet Sauvignon, which bring elegance, nuance, and acid structure to the blend. Dry Creek boasts incredibly rocky soils that drain exceptionally well, which helps to stress the vines late in the growing season, adding varietal character. Chalk Hill is located along the western slopes of the Mayacamas Mountain within the northeast corner of the Russian River AVA and is relatively warm due to the influence of a thermal belt that runs through the area, adding another layer of complexity to the unique Cabernet Sauvignon blend.

VINTAGE NOTES

The 2018 growing season in Sonoma was about as close to perfect as one could hope for. After years of hot weather and early harvests, 2018 is a welcome return to a “normal” vintage, with no major weather events, long hang times, and perfect ripeness in the vineyard. There was just enough rainfall in the vineyards early in the season which led to bud break in late March and consistent and generous fruit growth throughout the ripening months. As we got closer to harvest in October, we had cool mornings with fog throughout most of the county, and sunny afternoons to allow the fruit to develop a wonderful balance of acidity, sweet tannins and concentrated fruit flavors on the vine. Being patient, thinning the crop, and finding the perfect time to pick lead to one of the more idyllic vintages Sonoma County has seen in many years!
