Every Barolo/Barbaresco fan should jump at this chance to enjoy an outstanding Barbaresco that posted ratings on par with most of Gaja’s terrific 2013s but somehow costs about 80% less. This is 100% Nebbiolo from the small cru of Serracapelli in northern Barbaresco, near Nieve. Aged one year in small cask, it’s already wonderfully expressive on the nose: cherry/strawberry fruit, spice, incense, crushed violets, dark chocolate, and savory herb all really jump from the glass. The wine needs an hour or two of air to really get going now and then delivers nicely concentrated and deep flavors of dark cherry and red berry, crushed flowers, cocoa, leather and cured tobacco. The tannins are big but silky enough to remain enjoyable with food even today.
Antonio Galloni, Vinous (10/18)
